1. Product Overview
The British Type Chipping Hammer is a heavy-duty hand tool engineered for the rigorous demands of welding and surface preparation. Unlike complex suspension-handle designs, this model emphasizes simplicity, durability, and direct impact force, making it a staple in European shipyards, structural steel fabrication, and heavy machinery maintenance.
2. Head Geometry (Critical Design)
Striking Face (Poll): A flat, circular face designed for general striking tasks and driving punches.
Chisel End (Pein): A wide, flat, wedge-shaped blade set at an angle. This is specifically designed for scraping rather than piercing.
Correction Note: This tool does notfeature a pointed cone. Its geometry is optimized for shearing off weld spatter and peeling surface corrosion, not for penetrating materials.
3. Primary Applications
Weld Slag Removal: The primary use. The flat chisel edge efficiently removes flux residue from arc welding seams (SMAW).
Surface Descaling: Scraping heavy oxidation and rust from steel plates and structural beams prior to painting or coating.
Foundry Work: Removing gates, risers, and excess material from cast metal parts.
4. Usage Notes
Due to the rigid connection between the head and the short handle, users should be aware that impact vibration transfers directly to the hand. Proper PPE (gloves with impact absorption) is recommended for extended use.
